Glory days in Sai Wan, Hong Kong and the Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

To get to Sai Wan from Kowloon, take bus 92M to Sai Kung town. There are minibusses to Sai Wan Pavillion, but if you miss the bus you can take a green taxi for just under $100. You’ll be dropped off on a trail and all you have to do is follow it straight ahead. You’ll reach the Sai Wan “town” on the beach, and continue walking on the trail. Before it starts climbing the hill on the right, go left and follow the stream uphill for about 400 or 500 meters.

To find the jetty on Perhentian’s small island, walk north along Long Beach until about a 100 meters before the main jetty on your right and turn left down the path. Walk past the “white house” (outhouse) and continue on the trail and stay right. At the top you’ll see the fenced off wind turbines. Walk around the fence towards the covered benches and you’ll see the magnificent beaches below.
